4 Important Tests For Skincare Products
When you turn on your TV or have a browse on the internet, you may discover they are all filled with advertisements of skincare products. The advertisements, for marketing purpose, are often exaggerated. You may have already bought several of them because of the advertisements. Do you really notice significant improvement for your skin? It is time to test your skincare products for their real quality.
Toner is the first skincare product to apply after a facial cleansing. If toner is too irritating, your skin may become sensitive. To test the mildness of your toner, we need to know its PH value. You just need to drop a few drops of toner onto the PH paper and check its PH value. The higher the PH value, the more alkaline it is. The optimal range of PH value for toner is PH 5.5 to PH7. Skincare products with PH value under or below this range are either too acidic or too alkaline.
After applying toner, I usually apply a thin layer of essence to my face. These small bottles of essence are usually expensive and therefore, I expect significant effect from them. The most important attribute for effective essence is its absorbency. If it is able to penetrate deeper into my skin, the effect is better. To test if your essence can be easily absorbed by your skin, you just need some cotton pads. Piling up the cotton pads into a small stack and add a drop of essence to the stack. Wait for a while and see if your essence is able to pass through more than 3 layers of cotton pads. If yes, the essence can be considered as easily absorbed by skin.
The third test is for absorbency of your moisturizer. Moisturizer can be categorized as oil or moisture rich. Moisture rich moisturizer is easier for skin to absorb. Get a glass of water and drop a pea size of moisturizer into the water. For those floating on water and easily dissolved with a stir, they are likely to be oil rich. For the sinking and insoluble ones, they are likely to be moisture rich.
Other than toner, essence and moisturizer, sunscreen is the most often used skincare product for me. Applying suncare product is extremely important as it helps anti-aging. After applying suncare products, you may feel that your facial pores are unable to breathe. That is true and normal because most of them are quite oily. It is important to look for those that are less oily and yet able to protect you against UV light. To test this, you may apply some sunscreen on the back of your hand. After 3-5 minutes, press an oil blotting paper against it. The suncare product is too oily if there is a lot of oil absorbed.
Advertisements for skincare products are often exaggerated. These four tests are extremely yet they are important as you know how good your skincare product is. Products cannot pass the above four tests are more likely to cause skin problem like acne, dryness and redness.
