Throw A Purse Party And Be On The Cutting Edge Of Handbag Fashion

One of the current handbag trends that you may not be aware of is purse parties. You could believe (especially if you’re very male or very young) that handbags are really that: bags that you hold in your hand, designed to keep your important things organized and with you everywhere you go. Things that include your cash, credit cards, checks, keys, driver’s license, hair brush, nail file, medications, and anything else you’ll need when you’re away from the house.

Not so. Handbags (or purses) are not simply bags to carry your stuff in. Their secondary function is fashion accessory. Historically, the fashion expectation of handbags is that they significantly match your shoes, and that somehow both shoes and purse, on some level, match the outfit you’re wearing. These historical fashion expectations seem to have been relaxed in the recent decades of almost-anything-goes, or maybe it’s simply the ideas about matching that have altered.

Another handbag function is that of status symbol. You can check any fashion magazine of late for photos of purses costing thousands of dollars-each! Celebrity magazines are all apt to have photographic proof that some people actually do own such bags. In fact, there are online sites that help avid designer-bag collectors show off their collections.

There is also online support for the opposite end of the handbag-loving spectrum-people who create their own handbags from anything and everything, including recycled scarves, neckties, pockets, clothing labels, wallpaper, trash bags, heirlooms, maps, soccer balls, food wrappers, t-shirts, memorabilia, anything vintage, photos, soda-can tabs, you name it! There are free tutorials and patterns to help people knit, embroider, paint, stencil, stamp, cross-stitch, crochet, bead, weave, quilt, dye, collage, appliqu, modge podge, hand stitch, and silk-screen their own purses. There are instructions on how to memorialize a favorite, worn-out t-shirt in handbag format. There’s even a pattern for making your own party centerpiece (in the shape of a purse) out of a watermelon!

For those who are somewhere in between the recycling at-home purse-designing whizzes and the well-to-do designer-bag collectors, there are the purse parties. Here, at your friend’s, neighbor’s, or relative’s home you can enjoy a pleasant get-together while you peruse the latest trend in handbags, such as the stylish, affordable purses (both small and large versions) that come with interchangeable exteriors. These purses make it a delight to have your purse match your outfit or your mood. You don’t ever again have to be aggravated in moving your stuff from one handbag to another-you only change the outer shell of your bag-in a few seconds. Your variety of shells can fold flat into a small space in your closet. The best thing about this type of handbag (of course, next to the concept of having an interchangeable exterior) is that you don’t need a lot of money to have your purse match every outfit and to look like you have many gorgeous handbags.

If you feel out-of-the-loop on handbag trends, perhaps it’s your chance for a purse party.
